From West Africa’s Liberia to New York, there was a man who lived seeking freedom. Cisco worked on a rubber plantation in the Republic of Liberia, supporting his family through grueling labor. He stood up with his fellow workers to demand better working conditions, but nothing changed. It was then that Cisco heard from his cousin Marvin about life in New York. Determined to find a better life, he resolved to leave his beloved family behind and journey alone to the land of freedom, America. Settling into New York’s Liberian community, Cisco began working as a taxi driver. While witnessing the harsh realities of immigrant life, he gradually adapted to this bustling city teeming with diverse people. However, an unexpected reunion with Jacob, a former soldier, brought back the bitter memories of his past in Liberia….

【About Liberia】
The Republic of Liberia was founded by freed African slaves from the United States, with its name derived from the Latin word “Liber” (meaning freedom). Two civil wars occurred between the 1980s and 2000s, and the film offers glimpses of their impact. After the civil wars, the Liberian government established the Liberian Film Association, and this film marks the association’s first co-production. After its completion, director Ava DuVernay (Glory, 2014) became a great admirer of the film. It was subsequently released nationwide in the United States by ARRAY, the distribution company she heads.
